Welcome to Planet Shannon
Welcome to Planet Shannon, where everything is within reach!
I have often noticed that I may, perchance, have a different view of the world. Often my family joked that I was left on the doorstep and they suspected I was from Mars. Initially I denied this of course but now I think that there might have been something to it, however Mars is far too warm for my comfort so I believe it must have been another planet, and what better name for my homeworld than Planet Shannon! Its an ideal place where you can always reach what you need (my house for example, wouldn't have shelves that require climbing on the counter to get to), nothing ever will shrink in the dryer, you never forget your lunch, your cats sleep at the same time you do and there is lots and lots of tea.
I will be exploring my focuses through this blog, which at the moment are: film, fashion finance, fun, family & friends! Amazing they all begin with the letter F! I guess at the moment I am exploring the continent where all things begin with F, shall we name the continent? How about Fashinilmamends! Sounds good to me!
Destination: Fashinilmamends ahead!
It's hard to believe that post is from well over 7 years ago now. So many things have changed. It's wild to think that in that time I've gone from not even knowing how to insert a picture (the above is from a week into blogging), to knowing how to tweak HTML to sometimes just writing it in HTML. Blogger itself has changed, adding new features some of which I love (scheduling! custom-permalink! links not breaking at the bat of an eyelash!) and some not so much (formatting the HTML in Pages). It's still often a fine dance of trying to get things exactly how I want, but that's what the preview button is for. And I don't think we even used to always have that!
One of the most intensive things I blogged through was 101 Things in 1001 Days, which really highlighted what I was interested in, and even led to creating other blogs and learning new skills. That was a huge experience for me. But over the years, I've often enjoyed going back to look at old posts to simply remember what I was up to at any given point. To remember what year did I have that birthday party, or attended a particular event. It's a walk down memory lane and I can tell where I was living, working, what I was focused on, and of course a source of many, many cat pictures.
I haven't always been active here at Planet Shannon, and in 2011 I barely had any posts at all. I spent many years focused on my film blog, but sadly I had to close that door. But other blogging adventures have begun including sharing a picture of my day along with my sisters over at Under the Willow Tree, and sharing the awesomeness of paranormal TV along with my sister Suzie at Hexed: Sisterhood of the Supernatural.
I've felt differently about blogging over the years. It started of a whole world of fun, a way to track things, participate in things, connect with people and as a way to share. And then sometimes it spiraled into the land of 'shoulds', with self-pressured obligation getting in the way. I've decided to change my perspective and now always keep in mind what my goal is: to have fun, to share and ...well, to track things. I can't help it! I love tracking. I also use it to create reference materials (like online TV watching guides). But at the forefront, I try to remember that I want blogging to be fun. I know I'm always going to challenge myself, and I can't help but create projects and want to share them! But it's important that the process or sharing it to be enjoyable too. I'm still working on that, but I'm happy to be back here and working on it here at Planet Shannon.
This December Jamie and I are bringing the fun back to blogging with old skool prompts every day! Join us here to get in on the fun of the Kickin' It Old Skool Blog-a-thon!
