101 in 1001 update #76 & 77

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Apologizes on no update last week. It's been a whirlwind here, still unpacking as well as starting to make the major preparations for this years film fest. In a few week's I'll be able to say I've completed the #1 thing on my 101! Very exciting. For now I'll settle for getting more unpacked. Above is my 'boxes left' countdown.

#7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year has 2 submissions this week with #34 being Transformers and #35 being The Last Legion. I was not over the moon about Transformers, it's funny I think every guy friend I have asked me about it and whether or not I'd see it. The Last Legion was ... mostly confusing, but not a bad way to spend an afternoon. I have to figure out what I'm going to see this week.. and when!

#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next. Berry is still alive but not looking the best. We are about 1 1/2 months away from the 1 year mark. I wish I knew what I could do to make him thrive instead of just survive.

#21 - Save a part of every paycheque - done x2. I think I might hit a bit of a snag on this one. I did a little miscalculation and I can continue to save but I'll end up needing it soon. I'm not sure what the best way to handle it. And, FYI - whatever I've saved I've ended up spending. I'll eventually be saving to save long term (in less than a year if all goes well) but currently the saving is usually for a specific short term future goal. Man, can you tell I've been reading finance books?

#94 - Read every day - done! I'm still reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling but sorta put fiction on hold for a moment. I finished a slew off finance books including : Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke by Suze Orman (great, but it has a lot of US info which doesn't apply for me. This did make it for a faster read). I also read The Wealthy Barber by David Chilton (thanks Suzie!) and The Money Book : A Survival Guide For Canadians Under 35 by Kevin Cork. I'd recommend the Wealthy Barber, and if I found a pen to do a Sudoko I would have passed up finishing The Money Book - it's really for smark alex-y guys I think, and not for me. Some of the comments I thought were innapproprate, be they gender stuff or talking about when you'd 'kick the bucket' or what have you. I read these types of books for information, not for wit. It did have some good info, but wasn't for me. If you liked Bubba Ho-Tep, this is the finance book for you.

#92 - Learn/Discover something new every day
Monday Aug 13/07
- oh, you so don't want to know
Tuesday Aug 14/07 - that Second City is awesome! Thanks Danette!!!
Wednesday Aug 15/07 - the reason my new computer is delayed, sigh.
Thursday Aug 16/07 - good financial site (it's US fyi) http://www.suzeorman.com/
Friday Aug 17/07 - nothing noted, although somewhere around here I saw that I'd inspired someone to see films they'd never seen! See post here.
Saturday Aug 18/07 - even though I saved a little here and there I still spend all I had eventually!
Sunday Aug 19/07 - you never know what's going to come down the street (see pic of parade) Monday Aug 20/07 - nothing noted, oops. Sometime recently I learned that the phrase "In case you didn't happen to notice it, I'm one hell of a gorgeous chick!" which I think of from a song from My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult is actually from a film: Midnight Cowboy
Tuesday Aug 21/07 - term for the current time period (2000-2009) as the 'noughties'
Wednesday Aug 22/07 - confidential
Thursday Aug 23/07 - checked out Tasty Thursdays with my Mom, learned how to use my new camera!
Friday Aug 24/07 - Tax returns are so the win. I really wanted to hang on to mine to get some clothes and I finally did!
Saturday Aug 25/07 - ordered WAY to many things from the library, I so don't think I'll be able to watch them all
Sunday Aug 26/07 - Many things about cats such as: They don't meow in the wild, they learn to talk from humans. Ok, I kind of knew this and I felt like hiding when the judge mentioned is as it totally confirms that I taught Jamie's cat to talk, and I'll never live it down. She's a morning cat too... oh, if I only knew then what I new now

101 in 1001 update #75

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Another week and another update! It's funny I read somewhere about why you blog? And I think one of the main reason I keep (this) blog is keep myself on track with my 101! I think - I must learn something, I must keeping getting to the movies I will (one day) post some more film reviews! I also keep it to share pictures and ideas with people! This is a little window to my world. Hm.. how about this is a BIG window? Maybe it is little.. anyway.. on to the update!

Two more completed task! Woot!! #71 - Go swimming and #74 - Go to the Spa. Seems fitting for my 75th update to have tasks in the 70's complted! That puts me to 45/101 and I think I still have a few to post about.

#7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year is well over the halfway point with week 33 screening of Hairspray. OH my - it was sooooooooooo good. Highly recommend it. Highly highly. Totally positively infectious but not fluff, it was a great movie.

#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next. Berry still looking ok! He's in that big land of lots of plants. I have a newer pic but not yet uploaded it and now that I plugged in my iPod I'm feeling to lazy to upload it now, lol.

#21 - Save a part of every paycheque - done! Weeee! Savings feel a lot different when working towards a specific goal, I'm not sure I'm totally digging the difference though. I mean I planned it out and projected things and now I feel like I HAVE to save 'x' amount or I can't do 'y'. Before it was just shuttling it away and then later like 'poof' a gift! Maybe I'll go back to that method in a bit.

#94 - Read every day - done! I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling as well as Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke by Suze Orman. So far, I'm really enjoying both of them.

#92 - Learn/Discover something new every day
Monday Aug 6/07 - how to use the laundry machines in my apartment!!!!!!!!
Tuesday Aug 7/07 - garbage day changed, doh
Wednesday Aug 8/07 - Filmspotting is a great podcast
Thursday Aug 9/07 - spelling: installment - it came up as error but my trusty Gage dictionary says 1 or 2 l's is correct. Take that spellcheck!
Friday Aug 10/07 - def: tiddler - n. very small fish, adj. tiny, informal - slightly druck
Saturday Aug 11/07 - does questing in WoW count?
Sunday Aug 12/07 - I got too many films out of the library to watch them all today - oopsies!

#71 - Go swimming

Completed: as a part of #74 - Go to the Spa in July 2007

So, no picture of this one!

I love swimming, I always have. I find being in water so freeing. Although I took lessons for year, I never needed them. I always tell the story (as it was told to me, I don't remember actually doing it), of almost giving my Mom a heart attack when I was a little bean and beelined for the pool and just jumped in. What was the fuss? I could swim! I could float! Heck, I bet I can still do three triple backwards summersaults underwater. That hurts my brain though - but it's still cool!

My favorite swimming story that I do remember was having to take the 3rd level of really young swimming classes (was it Turtle, Frog or Fish? The badge was pink - I remember that), twice. No, I didn't fail. I was too short to progress to the 'big kid' class because I couldn't touch the bottom of the pool. Sigh. After that I took a few years off swimming lessons and earned my pride back as I was in a split level class, and although I went in for the lower level I passed both - hurray!

In recent years I've not swam at all. But I would like to get back to it. In fact, I didn't realize I had completed this one until after the fact as I had not set out with the intention to do it I just happened to be somewhere with a pool. But, at the end of the day it was done some I'm crossing it off - woohoo! I do plan on exploring some pools with my Mom though, and hopefully going swimming more regularly.

#74 - Go to the Spa

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Completed: July 2007, when to the Elmwood Spa with Jamie

I had actually been here before, prior to my 101 for the hydrotherapies (pool, whirlpool and steam room). This time we also got pedicures (see my cute toes below!), which I've never done before. I've had artifical nails before (the regular kind as well as gel) , but never my toes done. I was really looking forward to it but I'd have to say all in all it wasn't quite for me. I also realized I'm really particular (read: sensitive!) about my feet. I don't usually show them in public at all. So, the highlight was definately the hydrotherapies! Bring on the steam, it's so cool. And, not only that I knocked off an additional 101 without even realize it: #71 - Go Swimming. Score!

Landed!

As many of you know I've just gone through the process of moving and what a process it was! Every time I move (and I am not planning to again for a long while!), I wonder to myself - how did I end up with all this stuff? This time it wasn't quite as bad and I did a fair amount of purging which I think is always a good thing. Of course I think it's a good thing because you make room for more to come in! And there you are again, with the same amount just different 'actual' stuff. hehe. That's ok by me.

So, those who'd like to hear the moving story, tuck in as here it is.

We begin with the mammoth box of boxes. Lucky me, I found this on recycling day just across the street and down a few houses. It's a good thing it was that close because it was so big I could easily fit in it. Well, if it was empty that is.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I had quoted the movers that I had 'about 50' boxes. Now, they always ask this, and I never actually know, so this time I decided to count by numbering the boxes. Then I got to 50 and looked around thinking, wow, there is a lot more than that. So, being as paranoid as I am thinking they would notice the numbers on the boxes and figure out my plan, I started numbering from 1 a second time. I got to about 19 the second time and just stopped. I think I ended up with around 80-85. Most of the boxes were really small though!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I ended up being done the night before around 10pm. That was a first! I guess either I do have less than I thought or I've become a really good packer (go Green Bay, burr Green Bay!). I think I have it down to a very organized system. I've moved this lot of stuff a few times so I know what fits in what and what goes in a box, or a bag. As long as I can find a box that is just the 'right size' for the Cake Tray - I'm good.

So, .. here we are - same boxes, but different location! It's almost like magic!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Upon arrival I went through so many moments. It's smaller than I remember, it's bigger than I remember. Where are the outlets? There? I swear I saw one there? Where's the cat? Where's my sewing machine? Why the hell did I paint a 6' tall painting. Dang, it's hot. Oh my what was that sound? Oh look at all the windows! Etc, etc... And finally it was all in!

After getting so food and putting the essentials together:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

(and other essentials). I was done. I was actually done before that. Jamie & Justin were very lovely and put together my new futon because I just was out of it. A big thank you to them! For than and everything, they were so great! So great that we had to get the flock outta there and wind down with some beers. Yay for beer.

That was it for that day I tell ya! But the unpacking kept on going (and still continues, hehe). Jamie came by and helped we get organized and get stuff pretty! Thanks Jamie!

Now, it's really starting to come together and I've got the front room almost completely settled:

And a lovely sunfilled space for my plants:

The furry one has settled in nicely. He is so relaxed. I don't think anything phases him. Here is is under the table.

And here's me under the table!

Well that is the story so far, I hope you enjoyed it!

101 in 1001 update #72, 73, 74! Three-for-one!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Wow, looking at my last update it feels a million years ago, not just a little over 3 weeks! I have completed some tasks even it and around the moving time and I will post about them soon! For now lets take a look at the updates on recurring themes!

I'm getting closer on my #7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year, getting out to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (week 30), Sunshine (week 31) and The Bourne Ultimatum (week 32). Amazing how I managed to take time out from packing and unpacking to hit the theatre. All of those were with Jamie and Justin too! And Mom came to Sunshine, wow it's family movie time in the summer! They were are quite good films. Sunshine will likely be in my top films of 2007.

#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next. Still alive our Barry is! Repotted and in the window of my new home. Fingers crossed.

#21 - Save a part of every paycheque - done! Technically I spend way more of my savings this week, but I still put some aside!

#94 - Read every day - done! Ok, I will admit some days all I was reading was emails & blogs, or futon directions (oh wait that doesn't count - there were no words on it), menus! I read menus! But I'm back on track and so much looking forward to reading the 6th Harry Potter (thanks Suzie!), and to reading more regulary.
