SPC: Water

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Got caught in the rain on the way home on Saturday and here is me peeking out to watch it even though I already got home. It's funny, I never would have thought that waterwould be one of the elements I really connect to but it is. Not so much the rain but being *in* water I love. This week I went to the spa with Jamie and enjoyed the water therapies and she said any time she sees me in water she thinks 'water baby!". I would freak everyone out by running straight for the water when I was very young and jumping in. Although I did take swimming lessons, somehow even before that I always knew how to swim... I just knew what to do. I guess I was a water baby!

Card of the Day: Page of Pentacles Reversed - Mon July 16/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I know I asked a question, but it was all 15 hours ago and I can't remember what it was. What I noticed about looking at this card (from the reverse) was that there are lots of individual small areas with intricate workings. I had no idea what relevence this had, but that is what I saw.

Now to the expert opinion, from Understanding Tarot (p. 134): as a situation: "The Querent is engaged in boring activity or tedious process which seems to bring no rewards"

Hm, interesting. Oftentimes I don't actually find tedious boring or unrewarding. A lot of times I like repetition, but there are some things that do kinda drive me nuts.

101 in 1001 update #71

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ah, things maybe getting a little on hold with the move coming up in a few weeks. My cat doesn't seem to mind though! But, there has been some slow and steady progress here and there. I'm up to 29/52 for #7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year seeing Seven Samurai with Jamie and Justin as well as 1408 with my Mom (her pick!). I'm also continuing to work towards #101 - relearn the tarot with my daily draw of a card, see label . I'm finding this one a lot more sucessful when I ask a question before drawing the card.

#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next. I'm getting more worried about Berry, he's not looking the best... well his roots aren't . Leaves are still nice and green though!

#21 - Save a part of every paycheque - done!

#94 - Read every day - done! Finished Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson. It was a cross between witty, simple and then every once in a while it felt a little wierd, like it was a little too simple. Anyhow, short read so I also have been reading What No One Ever Tells You About Blogging and Podcasting by Ted Demopoulos (very good, but very business/money focused) as well as A Short Guide to Writing about Film by Timothy Corrigan

#92 - Learn/Discover something new every day
Monday July 9/07 - def: cavil - verb. make petty objections
Tuesday July 10/07 - def: jeoparty - exposure to death, lose, danger
Wednesday July 11/07 - cool text-to-voice website for blogs: http://www.talkr.com/
Thursday July 12/07 - alliteration - use of the same sound at the start of consecutive words (thanks to Jamie for sending me emails with big words!)
Friday July 13/07 - some technical troubleshooting stuff
Saturday July 14/07 - The quests & area of the Draeni starter zone
Sunday July 15/07 - the joy of getting to see Harry Potter before seeing any spoliers!

Card of the Day: Knight of Pentacles Reversed - Sun July 15/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Seeing this card reversed I was like WOW it's easy to get distracted looking at it. The Pentacle is so big and it's one part of the card but not all of it. My question to the cards was something along the lines of how can I make the most of my day, and this interpretation is perfect I think, from Understanding Tarot (p. 137):

"The Querenet is making very little progress towards achieving what is desired. Matters seem to have slowed down almost to a standstill...a change of approach may be needed..."

So true! I'm been thinking that this weekend I would really get on the ball and start packing (I'm moving in just over 2 weeks and packed a whopping 5 boxes. 4 of those yesterday), and I just have not done it. I keep planning other things to do and when I get home I just don't feel like it. Considering it's only 4pm there is still TONS of useable time in the day so I think I'm going to get cracking!

Card of the Day: Ten of Swords - Sat July 14/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ee gads, this tends to be a brutal one to get but also seems to give the feeling that 'although it was tough as hell, whatever it is, it's done'. I don't remember the question I asked if any on this one.

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says (p. 127)

"The Querent should beware of getting involved in a group of poeple whose problems will cause troubel for the Querent...conclusion of something and the beginning of a new phase.... experience the worst point of a crisis... also offers hope for a brighter future"

I like the brighter future part. I'm not sure what people it could be refering to. Hmmm.

Card a Day: Queen of Swords - Fri July 13/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

When I first picked out this card, I thought to myself it must mean: Be ruthless. As the day went on, I think it was really saying: ruthless doesn't really get you anywhere, at least not today.

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says (p. 139)

"She may be a very ambitious person who values her career more than marriage and motherhood and so has remained single."

Hmm... I know that is the traditional meaning but I'm not sure it fits specifically. Interesting.

Card of the Day: Five of Cups - July 12/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Wow, this is the first dup I got, and I only a few days apart. Albeit this time it was upright not reversed. My instint when I got this card was that it meant: Whatever happens, don't let it get ya down.

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says (p. 110)

"The Querent's cup of happiness has been upset, leaving the Querent dwelling upon what has been lost and feeling miserable, instead of appreciating what is still there. Being miserable and pessimistic is making problems worse than they need to be."

Ok, that is so fair of today. I have to admit I went into the day feeling ok and optimistic but I kept running into walls (not literally, well not today literally), and things fell apart a lot, plans got broken, trouble was caused and I harped on it a bit. Not as much as I might somedays though, so at least there is that.

Card of the Day: Six of Cups - July 11/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Looking at this card what I see is: Pick one. There are many things but work on one at a time

Oddly, the traditional interpretation of this card is Nostalgia, which I don't really 'see'. The pic of the 4 of wands (which I've not drawn nor posted yet) looks much more like nostalgia or really childhood to me. Maybe she is reliving old, good memories?

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says (p. 113) "The Querent may be thinking about happy himes in the past, or of childhood experiences, and this reminiscence brings pleasure and comfort in the past."

I can see what they are going for but I still am sticking to my interpretation of one thing at a time. I know ther ewas a time where I was less busy and could actually get through the things on my list. I think it may be refering to something like. That is how I approached today and it went over pretty successfully to take the one thing at a time approach (I'm a bit multitasker, so it was a bit of a challenge).

Card of the Day: Death - July 10/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ah, everyone's favourite card, no? Often shown in films when trying to 'scare' people, those of use who are familiar with the Tarot know that this card represents change. Sure, it can be death itself but that is unlikely. What I notice in particular about this card is how the figure is all in the same colour and complete encompassed in what they are doing - like a soul focus. Also the amount of space they take up, it's almost the whole card!

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says (p. 84)

"By far the most usual meaning of this card is radical change in the Querent's life: one phase of life has come to an end and a new one is beginning... when the card is upright, the Querent usually accepts the changes which are taking place and recognises them as inevitable"

Considering I recently completed the process on my divorce, as well as am moving apartments in a few weeks I can totally see the how this card fits right now.

I've also updated yesterdays post as promised.

SPC: Air

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

New week, new element. I kinda goofed though, I re-read the intro post to elements over at SPC and the suggestion was to pick one you feel most akin to. Last week's Earth I would have to say I connect to the least (although I'm working on keeping plants alive) and this week's Air would be the second (flying and heights hold little interest to me). I guess I'm building up the intention.

I selected this pic as it was a gorgeous day on Saturday and as I was walking about doing errands there was the loveliest breeze. Not strong enough to be a wind, but just enough to make it feel like a lovely calm and peaceful day.

Below is something that crossed my path that day as well.

101 in 1001 update #70

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Making good progess this week. I've actually come one step closer to #1 - Be a patron one year at The Toronto International Film Festival, with the purchase of my passes for this years film fest, which went on sale this am. Very exciting! I don't get to make my picks until end of August, it will be so hard to wait!

Up to week 28/52 for #7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year with getting out to see Rashoman with Jamie. It isn't new but it was in the theatre and it's such a great film, one of the best I've seen in quite a while. I'm also continuing to work towards #101 - relearn the tarot with my daily draw of a card, see label .

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next. Berry's still alive but after taking this pic I noticed his leaves falling and so far no roots growing so I've moved him to a water only container and hoping for some root growth. He was doing so well, and my only hope!

#21 - Save a part of every paycheque - done!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

#94 - Read every day - done! Finished The Riddle by Alison Croggon (it was really good and I'm really looking forward to reading the third in that series now), started reading Day Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko as well as Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson

#92 - Learn/Discover something new every day
Monday July 2/07
- the amount of $ I allocated to prescriptions for the year, I`ve already spent. Guess I was off by 50% there, whoops.
Tuesday July 3/07 - Herringbone stitch pattern, how to insert a hyperlink into an email (internal)
Wednesday July 4/07 - iTunes notates how many times you listened to each song on your iPod. `Daddy Sings Bass` by Johnny Cash was top of my list.
Thursday July 5/07 - I`m an acronym at work. They say wwsd... what would Shannon Do
Friday July 6/07 - about lots of new art at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition
Saturday July 7/07 - that if I have a `simple`recipe I won`t follow it I`ll just make it like I would if I had no recipe
Sunday July 8/07 - apparently I didn`t learn the herringbone pattern.

Card of the Day: Five of Cups (reversed) - July 9/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I've no idea how to reverse the card image here, but I did get it reversed. My sense from this one is to "Let go".

More on this one later.

Update:

This is the first card I've gotten that has been reversed. Not everyone uses reverse meanings but I do. I find even if I put all the cards upright some find themselves upsidedown anyhow so I figure it's just meant to be. Often reversed meanings hold the same general meaning of the card however it can be something they are (if I remember right) avoiding, denying or the normal course of action is taking longer than expected.

Ok, Let's see what Understanding Tarot says (p. 110)

"Something which was valued has gone from the Querent's life, leading to a feeling of bereavement in some sense...these sorrowful feelings will lessen only with the passage of time".

I think 'let go' works for that, but also don't all muffy if it doesn't happen all at one.

Card of the Day: Page of Cups - July 8/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Page of Cups, interesting. I usually think of Pages as messangers or ideas at the very beginning stages. I did to the 'ask a particular question' today and I asked, oh bother what was it... how can I make today productive or this is it - how can I make the most of today.

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says (p. 132)

As a person - this person may assist the querent if asked to help but is probably too shy to offer if not asked

As a situation - latent skills and talents, ideas arising from the unconcious, a time of reflection or study

Wow, not what I was expecting considering what I have on the plate for today is to watch some movies, pack and clean up. Maybe I have somethings to get in order first.

Card of the Day: Four of Pentacles - July 7/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Looking at this image what I see is pride in building a certain amount of financial stability.

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says: "extremem stability and resistance to change".

No fair! Resistance to change? Who? Wha?? I don't know anyone like that...

"experiences material and emotional security, and feels that all personal needs are catered for.... this may be comforting... but if it persisits for long it could feel stifled by the predictable and humdrum nater of their exisitance..."

Oh, bother. That fits me to a tee.

Card of the Day: Three of Wands - July 6/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ok, somewhere I goofed on posted because it looks like I missed a day when in fact I didn't. Very odd. Anyhow, card for Friday was Three of Wands. From the pic it's clear that it is about building and/or wording on strengthening a foundation. To what, though? I think of wants as artistic/intellectual endeavours. I did make a really good insight actually a few, which made certain things clear so perhaps this is the meaning.

Looking further at this particular version of the card one thing I do notice is that he is holding many things, none of which would stand up/hold their own without him holding that. Sometimes I can completely feel like that - that I'm holding the fort. What fort though? Could be feeling dragged down but the regular day to day things. Or, another interpretation is that that along keeps my hands full. That I can totally see.

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says: "Creative ideas with regard to business and enterprise are indicated." Check, that totally happened. "After initial plans have been made, however, there may be a perious of waiting to see how things develop from the processes which have now be set in motion...." Waiting. Ya. One of my favorite things...

Thanks Suzie for suggesting to "Why not ask the cards for what is hidden from you that you need to know? I find that helps" This is very true. Often when I pull a card and don't find a particular connection or relavence it is because I didn't ask a question just pulled a card. I guess I need to think about what I want to know, Jamie suggested something like "What will help guide me today" (correct me if I paraphrase incorrectly). Maybe I should write some questions and put them near my deck. Keep in mind I draw the cards first thing in the AM and at that point I can be a little... fuzzy....

Card of the Day: Six of Pentacles - July 4/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ah, pentacles. I usually like getting them! Looking at this one what strikes me is: lots! Like there is enough to go around.

Let's see what Understanding Tarot says: "...means that The Querent is a generous person who likes to help others and to show care and affection. An act of charity or the payment of a karmic debt are also possible interpretations" p.114

Ironically this interpretation reminds me of one of the reasons sometimes I don't do my cards. To be frank, I know this about myself so it leaves me feeling like saying "and so...?". Of course I can look towards be particularly like this today, or do a self check saying I think I'm like this but am I really doing this? I'm not sure. I did buy a jade plant today though, if that means anything.

Wednesday, July 04, 2007

Card of the Day: The Lovers - July 3/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The Lovers. This one I always remember what it means: A choice. What choice is it refering to? One I've made already or something I'm considering on the horizion? There are a few possibilies, as it feels like a time of change.

Understanding Tarot says: "The Querent is faced witha difficult choice: take one particular course of action forces rejection of others which may seem equally attractive, so there is a feeling of being drawn in differnt directions at once. There is also the problem that once the choice is made it willnot be possible to go back on it becuase the Querent's life will have changed irrevocably" p.75

Wow, that sounds a lot harsher than I normally think about it. I hope I make the right choice!

Tuesday, July 03, 2007

Card of the Day: Two of Cups - July 2/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Well well well. I've sure been getting a lot of cups recently but I did not expect this one to appear. As it's clear from the picture it usually represents a romantic relationship or partnership/friendship. I wonder who with it is refering too.

Understanding Tarot says: "Often it represents a love ffair, engagement or marriage but can also represent a close and supportive friendship, or even a good business partnership. It shows that there is someone special in the Querent's life, who the Querent is fond of and who can be trusted and relied upon, and that this is a friendship of equals." p.100

Sounds good to me.

FYI Querent is the person you are doing the reading for, in these posts it means me.

Progress on a few here and there with #7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year is up to 27/52 with getting out to a bunch of films including: Let's All Hate Toronto, Angel-A and Live Free or Die Hard. Also, in an endeavour to work on #101 Relearn the tarot, I'm drawing a card a day and then reflecting on that card. You can find the thoughts on them as they are all tagged:

#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next. Oh my.... distressing news!... I decided to repot Berry as was looking a little not so great and when I did I discovered that it wasn't connect to any roots, or that I possibly disconnected them trying to repot. No wonder he wasn't looking good. This is a before shot, please cross fingers that next weeks after shot he's doing ok.

Card of the Day: Eight of Cups - July 2/07

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This one must be very true for me right now, it also showed up last night as 1 of the 2 cards for July in a 6 month spread I did (I like to do those on the first of the month). She looks so sad and overwhelmed, too many hats for sure. Here is what Understanding Tarot says:

"The Querent has enjoyed a situation or relationship where there was stability, peace and security, but this is not enough. Something seems to be lacking in life and it time to move on to new things." p.119

Oh my this is so true! The only thing I don't know is does it apply to one thing or everything? I am moving Aug 1 so that is one thing for sure, but I know for me this kind of change tends to apply across the board in almost every aspect of my life, so I'm curious - and excited - so see what will happen. But perhaps 'seeing' isn't enough, this seem sto be more a job of being proactive therefore I may be the source of then change. Hmm... what would I like to change?

Ace is new beginnings and nine is love and relationships... hmm.. well, now that is interesting. I am very curious as to what the day will bring.
