101 in 1001 update #60!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I am just aching to get another task complete. I'm feel like I've been at 39/101 for ages! I had an idea this week though, to pick 11 things on my 101 and work on getting them done before my Bday in July. It roughly coincides with the 1/2 way point in the 1001 days. I tried to pick a combination of one-of tasks and ones that would take more planning/effort. I also tried to pick ones that I'm not currently working on. So, with some work and a little hope, I'm aiming to be half way though, when I'm... half way through. But now on to what I've actually done:

#7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year is up to 18 weeks, as I got out to see Crossing. Review pending, so so so many reviews pending. In the past month I've seen 11 more films from my 3 - List of 101 Films I Can't Believe I Haven't Seen, all with reviews pending. Sigh. I'll get there.

#31 - Read 1 fashion magazine a month for April 07

#100 - 7/8 Celebrate Beltane. Great holiday. One more and this one will be complete.

#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next - update: Gooooooooooooooooo Berry!

#21 - Save a part of every paycheque - done!

#94 - Read every day - done! I've switched selection here, and I've started reading Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko. I got it from the library and trying to get through it in 3 weeks might be a challenge. So far I'm loving this book!!! I really enjoyed the film (it was my favorite foreign film of 2006, see review here), but I think it might be the first time I've read a book that a movie was based on and I've already seen the film and it is a English translation of a Russian book. At least, I think it's the first time I've done that.

#100 - 7/8 Celebrate Beltane

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Celebrated: April 30, 2007 **
> I goofed, Beltane is actually May 1st... but I'm still counting this!

Traditionally this is a holiday I love! I wasn't quite feeling it today, but I decided to celebrate anyway, cuz that's the way I am! I made a nice dinner (thanks for the idea of making doing the 'spicy' thing Suzie!), put out an offering plate and thought about some of the fun celebrations over the past year.

Also, check out how much my plants have grown since I started them on Ostara.

#31 - Read 1 fashion magazine a month, April 07

For April 2007, read the April issue of Vogue

Things to note....

Colour - white, silver, pale metallics, pale blue, pale pink

Silouhette - ensembles with combinations of fitted & volume, straight skirts, straight pants, odd volumes, poofiness, shapelessness (hard non-drapeable fabrics)

Textures - shiny, woven, threadlike

70's/early 80's hair - loose wavy and windblown

Accessory - (hugely) oversized bags

Overall - simplicity: 1 interesting thing (pattern, fabric, cut, colour) the rest is the frame to that picture. Dramatic, Simple, Classic.

Wow, already the 4th installment for April ? What happened to April? I have this idea about 'branding' each of the months so when it gets to the end of them instead of going "Holy crap, that when by quickly!" I'll go "Wow, April was the month of , and I really enjoyed ".

Feb was movie month for me (I'm sure those who read My Film Blog think every month must be movie month, but Feb I saw an extrodinary number of films in anticipation of the Oscar's, 14 films in 28 days more than 1/2 of which were in the theatre).

March was 'belt tighting' month. No, not literally, but financial. A whole whack of large expenses showed up around the same time so I had to get a little creative, and be very choosy on what to spend the greatly reduced amount of spending money I had. Which was fascinating, although I'm inviting the opportunity to try it out again any time soon.

I was thinking of April as the month to get out and see people! I did get to see Danette, which was so much fun! I had such a lovely time and we chatted for hours and hours about everything under the sun until the sun turned to the moon and then some. Thanks Danette for your lovely company! I've also made plans to see my friend Heather - woohoo! Somethign to look forward too :)

Oops, I didn't talk about the pic. Well that can be the 'disassociated' portion of the post. I meant to try and get a pic of my tattoo but it was being shy.. only a sliver appears in the top left area.

#93 - 5.5/20 read 20 books - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Completed: April 7, 2007

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

Nothing like a good Harry Potter book. I tell ya, I've not followed a series of books quite as religiously as these in a number of years. I only read the book for whichever of the films is about to come out, but not past that until I've seen the film. I don't want to pick up on any foreshadowing.

I do have to say I found this one a little hard to read at times. As the characters get older, the situations have become more serious and I found that a little unexpected and not the most, pleasent. I guess I think of these books as happy escapism and sometimes I thought Hey!! They can't do that!! But, it did even out over time. It was perfect before sleepytime reading and once I was about 200 pages from the end it was marathon reading time, I could not put the book down. All in all, a great read!

#68 - Bake a pie

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Done: Lemon Mousse Pie, April 8/07 - Happy Easter!

Initially I thought I would pick a fruit pie, apple or some kind of berry perhaps. But! Then this amazing Lemon Mousse Pie with Raspberries recipe basically dropped in my lap and I knew it was the right one! It was pretty simple to make, but better than that is tasted delish! It did taste deceptively 'light'.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Had one near disaster while making my pie. I thought to myself, gee, you chill this pie so that means it never goes in the oven... I wonder if that matters. I look at the packaging and low and behold - you do pre-bake the crust! hehe.... yay... saved from eating a raw dough shell! It's a good day.

Read a magazine a month - March 2007

Read: In Style. Here are some of the things I noticed:

Still seeing a lot of eightie's stuff - odd cut out shapes, odd volumes, layering, leggings, skinny skirts, skinny pants, large jewlery.

Some closer to normal for the spring time was bohemian & peasant styles.

Other than that - colour schemes, a little different tha tyour normal spring fair as there are a lot of neutrals. I would describe them as either muted citrus or bright neutrals.

The one thing that was a totaly treat is they picked 4 Oscar dresses and did technical and artistic drawings for them, and that was absolutely fabulous.

One of the reasons I like In Style is that the pictures of outfits are often full length and credit the person wearing it, the date and the designer. I love that! I'm even considering getting a subscription. Although I really consider Vogue at 'the' one to read for actual fashion information, it's a lot more to get a subscription that In Style (at least the last time I checked).
