SPC: B&W 4 and CaC: Getting to know you

I thought this weeks (well really last weeks, but I liked it so I'm still going to do it) Getting to Know You at Create a Connection really fit with SPC. Feb is hosted by Swampgrrl - thanks for having such a fun prompt!!! The questions originally from The Actor's Studio - I find it's often the best part of the show.

1. What is your favorite word?
I'm totally stumped and surprized I can't think of anything! I know there must be lots of the. Most recently: grok

2. What is your least favorite word?
Loser, and any and all slurs

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Intensity

4. What turns you off?
Not listening/undertstanding/believing/seeing people for who they are

5. What is your favorite curse word?
Currently a toss up between: Flippin' heck and Bloody hell
Historically I'd have to agree with Jamie's answer

6. What sound or noise do you love?
The kettle whistling, the sound during the podrace in Star Wars Episode I is a close second

7. What sound or noise do you hate?
Waking up to hearing the crashing of things at 3am when my cat decides to knock over stuff.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I have a profession? Um,... testing things, especially the strenght of things. I'm good a breaking stuff.

9. What profession would you not like to do?
Anything that has any kind of customer service. Or anything medical.

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear the God & the Goddess say when you arrive?
Well, you sure didn't listen to much advice that time did you?

101 in 1001 update #51!!!

Well, I remember those days in January that were mild enough to wear running shoes? No such luck anymore. It's been snow snow snowing like you would not believe! Enough about weather and on to out updates.

#7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year is really up to 9 weeks now, this weeks film was Vie secrète des gens heureux, La / The Secret Life of Happy People. What a treat to see to see a Genie nominated film! Now... if I can just get #7 in synch with #14 - Write something about all the films I see (for the first time) throughout these 1001 days. Maybe next week! But for now, I have made progress with reviews for Notes on a Scandal, The Black Dahlia and Factory Girl

Continuing the film vibes I'm made progress on #2 - Compile a list of all the films I've seen. I got up to 'E' in transposing titles from a film guide + currrent-ish films, which has the list up to 744. As it's getting to be a little bit of a monsterous list I've removed links to reviews.

101 in 1001 update #50!!!

Update #50 - can you believe it?? 2 more weeks and that will mean it will have been a year since I've started! It's a little hard to imagine. Which is silly, becuase I don't need to imagine it I'm living it! I'm actually feeling a little overwhelmed recently, and my inbox doesn't show that at all (hehe), up until a few days ago my tickler file was almost a month behind! I've revamped it a little by complying all the things I do 'every day' and the things I do 'every Monday, Tuesday' in a little chart in the front of the file, instead of papers in each file. So far that is working better for me. Although, that doesn't have much to do with my 101.. so... without further adeiu....

#7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year is really up to 8 weeks now, I got out to 2 flicks, Blood Diamond and Factory Girl. Also progress on #14 - Write something about all the films I see (for the first time) throughout these 1001 days with reviews up for Office Space and Saw both of which where from #10 - See the next 5 movies recommended to me regardless of what I think of them bringing it to 2/5 or 4/16 depending on how you look at it. All of these partials has me all confused!




I also completed Feb 07 part of #31 - Read 1 fashion magazine a month, I actually read several in Chapters (don't tell! I was killing time before a movie). I read Vogue, Fashion and Marie Claire. A lot of wierd stuff going on there.... odd volumes, 'space age', romantic-ness (every single spring we are subjected to it) and bohemian with big prints. Very odd mix.

Photo Thursday: Family

Tammy is hosting Photo Thursday at Create a Connection and this week the photo is Family. What luck I have a scanner now so I can delve into the archives!! At least that was my initial though, then I looked at some pics and I was like ... oh boy.. those peope are a gonna kill me! I have a lot of Christmas mornings, Birthday mornings, and random unexpected shots.. not terribly the most flattering kinda pics! But I did find some that weren't too incrimiating I hope....

Top one is Jason's Bday. We used to always get up and open presents in the morning, even it if wasn't the weekend. It was tradition!

The second 2 are Christmas pics from when me and Jamie lived in the coldest basement in the world! However, many fun times were had while we were there.. included this celebration! Man, we sure are a bunch of nutbars! hehe

101 in 1001 update #49!!!

It's been a bit of a quiet (and cold!) week. But, an eighth of one more task complete with a #83 - 8/10 - Try out 10 new restaurants. Some progress items....

#7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year, up to 8 weeks now... oh, well not really. Well, it will be after Wednesday! I've not decided between Volver, Blood Diamond or The Lives of Others yet. However, some progress on #14 - Write something about all the films I see (for the first time) throughout these 1001 days with reviews up for Babel and Children of Men. Slowly but surely.



#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next - update: Another plant bites the dust. I think I should have written this one as keep 'at least one' plant alive. With 2 down and 1 thriving I feel like I jinxed the two. But, Berry is happy - gooooooooooooo Berry!

Drawing Every Day

ok ok.. I know I already have other things I do 'every day' and I often feel like there isn't enough time in the day to do everything but I'm still going to try this one. The day after I got my printer/scanner hooked up I bought a new sketchbook. It's odd to think I wasn't drawing because I couldn't share it with people because I had never done that in the past. I guess its something that feels different in blogland, you want to share! Well, I want too I guess is more correct.

Here are my drawings from this week. It's funny to me that I bought a black marker and plan on doing the drawings with that. I'm much more a pencil or (dreamy sigh) charcoal person. But this is very portable, quick, I can't erase and so I just gotta go for it. And I think I will.

Photo Thursday: Imagination

Tammy is hosting Photo Thursday at Create a Connection. This week's topic is Imagination. I picked this pic as I'm not sure exactly what it is, and I would rather not know what it really is because it is so much more fun to imagine what it could be! Fireflies with jet packs moving quickly. A guitar busting and the strings going everywhere. Minitubes and tunnels of some kind of intergalactic transit system. What music would look like if it was light. It could be anything!!!

It's working............ mostly :)

After the holidays I snagged a printer/scanner/copier at a Boxing Week sale, and it has taken me til tonight to actually hook it up. I attempted to a few weeks ago but I didn't realize the little *please purchase this cord seperate notation.

Regardless, I've hooked it up, scanned stuff, printed stuff and I have a few more things to test but so far looks ok. It kinda makes a clunkity clunk sound when first printing so I'm a little worried about that but maybe its just noisy.

Here is something I scanned for your view pleasure... it's a sketch that is at least 10 years old from when I did an assignment back in art school, the subject of the piece was an eyelash curler.



It is kinda inspiring me to carry around a sketchbook again.

Jan 30, 2007 with Mom, Jamie & Justin for Mom's bday - go Mom!

What a great pick of a place to go. The staff are really nice and the food was soooooo good! We all got the chicken & ribs (it was the special that night) and it was divine. Thinking of the ribs makes my mouth water. And, got to try potstickers for the first time which were really yummy! Sizable portions, make sure you take your hunger with you when you go! It's a delight. It's at the south end of Kensington Market and check there website for hours, they don't stay open too late. I know I'll be going back!

Finding somewhere in my apartment that didn't have colour, plus getting a pic that didn't turn out red - was *quite* the challenge. Getting to wear my nifty pseudo Adidas black with white striped sleeves - not a challenge. 1 part easy + 1 part hard = opposites = thematically synchonicity!

101 in 1001 update #48!!!

Another Monday, another update!~ I wonder how many I will have is I do 1 a week. OH,,... 143, what an intersting number it's divisable by 11. How is that for a random thought? In other news...

One and an eighth more task complete with a 2-in-1 celebrating Imbolc #100 5/8 and Cast a Spell #99. Very exciting and partially unexpected. Yay!



#7 - See 1 film a week in the theatre for a year, up to 7 weeks now, seeing 4 films: The Queen (which included one of the weirdest film experiences in recent history), The Prestige, Babel and Children of Men - all worth seeing. I'm really hoping to get some reviews up soon.



#38 - Keep a plant alive from 'The Auction' from one year to the next - update: Oh boy. My burrow plant is not doing well. I think it is just about toast. Berry is still really happy though. I never would have picked it out of the three to thrive, it was so small - lol, but at 4'9" I shouldn't talk about not expecting stuff from from the short fry. On the flip side, a co-worker entrusted me to look after her wilting african violet (the one I have on my desk is doing really well) and I sucessfully repotted my first cutting:

rut roh....

Ran into a few snags working on my 101 list. One was on Feb 1 looking at my 'to do' list which say "Read a Fashion Mag B4 the end of Jan!". Oops. #31 on my 101 list is Read 1 fashion magazine a month, and for Jan 07 - I didn't. Now the total possible completion of my 101 in 1001 can only be 100 33/34 tasks. Sigh. It's actualy quite telling though, I never thought it would be a hard task at all. I buy the mags, I just don't tend to read them. It really shows that currently I'm not very focused on fashion.

The second snag I ran into was working on #4 - Get a copy of 2005 issue of Film Review year in review (for films released in 2004). I mailed in a back order request way back around Sept but never heard anything. So I went online, figuring I could order it that way. Then I found this. Sold out! Nnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! I'm not giving up on this one quite just yet. I'll check ebay and possible other sources. I've been getting it every year since 2001, and I really enjoy it. I started getting it because I was taking a film class that sparked my interest in film on a stronger level than before, and I wanted something that everything that was out recently rated. It's a UK publication and I like the non Hollywood glamed over perspective. It also lists a fair number of foreign films reviewed. Each review has a out of 5 star rating, picture, director & cast info and a review.

Oh a happy note, the 2007 issue of Film Review year in review is out and believe you me I snagged it up and happily paid the $26.17 (tax included) and had a lovely time reading it and over a nice cuppa tea. It's always a great read, and I find new films to add to my must see list!
