Film Fan Fridays for Friday July 28, 2006!!!

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!!!

I'm so excited that the dry spell of Canadian releases has ended and Familia is hitting the screens this week. It received multiple Genie nominations and was the winner of the 2006 Claude Jutra Award. I have heard a lot about it and I am really looking forward to seeing it. One of the more unusual releases this week is U-Carmen Ekhayelitsha, which is a contemporary version of Carmen set in South Africa. I would say that the most anticipated release we have this week is Miami Vice, which was a remake I was a little surprized to hear was being made but considering Michael Mann is at the helm I think I will give it a go.

Inspiration of the Week: Rep theatres live on!
The recent closing of the many of the festival cinemas has created a bit of a stir! The Royal will remain a theatre after some technical upgrades and will be reopened by Theatre D.
There is also an initiative to keep the Revue Cinema in the Roncesvalles community alive. For more information on the Saving the Revue click here.

Have a great weekend!!
