Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!!
Releases this week are all across the board! From Sundance hit Art School Confidential to family fun Hoot to historical action/adventure/romance The Promise to blockbuster Mission Impossible III, there really should be something out there for everyone! We also have Something New, 3rd new release recently playing in limited release not in the downtown core. I'm finding this new trend fascinating. No Canadian film this week though, boohoo!!
Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival continues until May 7, 2006, Toronto
Toronto Jewish Film Festival, runs May 6-14, 2006, Toronto
As we are now in May with birds singing and flowers blooming, we also are starting to see the beginning of the summer blockbuster season. Now, I don't usually say that summer flicks go hand in hand with works like 'quality' but they can be fun as all get out, and a nice break from the blistering heat outside which we can expect in the days ahead. Summer films are total escapism in my opinion and the season begins with week with the release of Mission Impossible III. May continues with adventurous films such as Poseidon to be released May 12, remake of the 1972 The Poseidon Adventure, I am really looking forward to this one, I love water movies!
And we trek forward to the .. shall we say thriller? Mystery? The Da Vinci Code comes out May 19th. What would May be without mutants? Good thing we don't to find out as X-Men: The Last Stand is out on May 26. June releases are of only on the bookends of the month with yet another remakes, this time of a creepy genre, The Omen is out June 6th, and what could be the most anticipated films of the summer, Superman Returns is being released June 30th for the long weekend. July continues with the remakes and sequels trend with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest out July 7th, and Michael Mann's Miami Vice out July 28. I believe we have the only *original* idea film of the biggies out on July 21 with M. Night Shyamalan's Lady in the Water.
Have a great weekend!
